Pregabalin was first licenced by the FDA in 2004 as an anticonvulsant and antiepileptic medicine. It works by slowing down seizure-inducing brain impulses. Pregabalin also affects brain chemicals that send pain signals to the nervous system.
Pregabalin is used to treat fibromyalgia pain, diabetic nerve pain (diabetic neuropathy), herpes zoster (post-herpetic neuralgia), and spinal cord injury pain.
Pregabalin, in combination with other medications, is used to treat partial-onset seizures in adults and children over the age of one month.
