The fast charging protocols?

There are so many fast charging protocols on the market.

Since Apple released the first generation of iPhone in 2007, the mobile phone industry has ushered in a great era of change. By 2020, mobile phone screens are getting better and better with higher performance, while mobile phone batteries are still developing slowly. Many mobile phones now have 5000mAh batteries, but that's not enough for some users, so phone manufacturers are looking for another way to extend battery life and speed up charging, which is now known as fast charging.

At present, there are many fast charging protocols on mobile terminals, the mainstream of which are USB PD, QC, AFC, FCP, SCP, VOOC, SuperVOOC, PE, FlashCharge, etc. How do these protocols come from, how do they develop, and whether they are compatible with each other? Here is a brief interpretation of mobile terminals between the various fast charging.

Among them, PD and QC are the most common, which have relatively low requirements on wires and chargers, and support the most devices. Many mobile phone manufacturers and third-party accessory manufacturers have charging products that can support PD and QC fast charging protocols. The remaining AFC and FCP are also very common, and are carried on many Samsung mobile phones and Huawei mobile phones; SCP is Huawei's super fast charge, which is also relatively common and can also be seen in other charging accessories except Huawei.

PE fast charging is relatively rare now, mainly some models of Meizu support PE fast charging; VOOC, DART, and Warp flash charging of OPPO series are mostly found in their own accessories and authorized third-party accessories manufacturers, while SuperVOOC and SUPERDART can only be seen by OPPO series charging accessories, and it is only valid for specific OPPO and realme and OnePlus mobile phones; as for FlashCharge, it is currently only available on vivo and iQOO mobile phones.

In fact, the unification of fast charging standards among electronic devices is the general trend, that’s consumers want to see. Otherwise, there is a charger and a charging cable in hand, but they are not universal and cannot activate fast charging for charging the device, which is a very uncomfortable thing for consumers.

Therefore, technology giants including USB-IF, Qualcomm, Apple, and Google are currently working to promote a unified standard for fast charging. It is believed that in the future, only one fast charger and one fast charging cable can provide fast charging for all devices.
